Sir: I have received your No. 180, of the 3d ultimo, stating that the minister of finance had officially communicated the claim of the Hydro-graphic Commission of the Amazon to Congress, which had adjourned, however, without making the necessary appropriation to pay the same.
The Department observes with satisfaction the progress thus made in this long-pending claim, and sincerely hope that on the reassembling of Congress in July next the Government of Peru may be enabled to obtain without further delay the sum necessary to liquidate this just demand.
You will give the matter attention in this sense at the proper time.
