Have just received following telegram from the Queen:

The Ambassador of the United States, London:

I thank yon most sincerely for the kind message you have conveyed to me from the President on the occasion of the terrible catastrophe in the Mediterranean and the loss of the Victoria with so many brave officers and men, including one distinguished admiral. Pray assure the President that I am much touched and most grateful for his kind sympathy on this sad occasion.
