Sir: I am in receipt of two communications from the minister for foreign affairs, dated the 22d and 23d instant, respectively. In the first his excellency informs me that three of the brigands who robbed the Rev. Mr. Pierce and his companions near Baghchejik have been arrested, identified, and will shortly be tried. His excellency adds that he has written to the prefecture of the city requesting that the proceedings in this case be hastened.

In his second note his excellency states that the entire band of brigands who robbed Mr. Montgomery, the United States consular agent at Marach, have been apprehended, and that all the articles stolen from Mr. Montgomery have been recovered and restored to him.
