No. 6.
Mr. Blaine to Mr. Osborn .

No. 147.]

Sir: I have to acknowledge the receipt of your No. 324, in which you communicate the exceedingly welcome information that the question of boundary lines between the Argentine Republic and Chili has, at length, been peacefully settled. This government is the more gratified to learn that a result so significant and brilliant has been brought about by negotiations carried on, with the consent of both governments, between our legations at Buenos Ayres and Santiago.

The Department cannot delay to congratulate the two governments on the momentous agreement of which you furnish the interesting details in your above-named dispatch.

Commending the judgment and discretion exercised in the conduct of the negotiations and observing that the substance of your dispatch has been communicated to the press,

I am, &c.,

JAMES G. BLAINE.
