Mr. Hitt to Señor de Zamacona.

Sir: Adverting to your note of July 25 last concerning the alleged illegal arrest in Mexico of a fugitive criminal from Arizona, I have now the honor to inclose for your information a copy of a letter from the acting governor of the Territory of Arizona, of August 26 last, in which it is stated that the proper steps would be taken to ascertain the facts of the complaint.

Adding that the inclosed communication has been received with a letter from the Secretary of the Interior, of the 14th instant, I profit by this occasion to renew to you, sir, the assurance of my highest consideration.

Mr. Gosper to Mr. Bell.

Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 3d instant, inclosing copy of a note from the minister of Mexico calling attention to the violation of the treaty between the United States and Mexico, in that a sheriff of one of the counties of this Territory had crossed the boundary line and arrested a fugitive criminal and took him from Mexican territory without complying with the formalities of the extradition treaty. In answer, would say that the proper steps shall be taken to ascertain the facts of the case.
