No. 514.
Señor de Zamacona to Mr. Blaine.

[Translation.]

Mr. Secretary: With much gratification this legation has learned of the instructions which have been given to the governor of Arizona to investigate the abuses complained of to your Department in my note of the 25th of July last, to the end of procuring the punishment of the guilty parties, and for maintaining, if possible, order and peace in that part of the frontier. The note which under to-day’s date I address to your Department concerning the recent crimes committed by organized [Page 844] parties of evil-doers from this side of the boundary line, and of which several Mexican residents of the State of Sonora have been the victims, will amply show your Department how well founded are the instructions given to the governor of Arizona, and how gratifying it will be if they can be carried into effect.

I repeat to you, Mr. Secretary, upon this occasion, the assurances of my deepest consideration.

M. DE ZAMACONA.
