Paris, November 15, 1881.

Hare had no interview with the President since the two reported in my dispatch No. 58. Can recall nothing to add to that reported except that at my second visit the President corrected a statement of Mr. Rosas, who had understood him to say that in my first visit I had declared my government did not desire European assistance. This brought the explicit declaration reported in my dispatch. Indications here apparently less favorable for recognition.
