No. 230.
Mr. Blaine to Mr. Noyes.

No. 384.]

Sir: I have to acknowledge the receipt of your dispatch No. 475, of [Page 413] the 27th ultimo, in reply to the telegram of the Department of the 24th ultimo, in reference to certain published statements alleged to have been made by the minister of commerce on the subject of trichinae in America.

In reply, I have to say that the Department learns with satisfaction that Mr. Tirard, the minister of commerce, did not make the statements attributed to him, and that it seems probable that the decree prohibiting the importation of American pork into France may soon be revoked.

I am, &c.,

JAMES G. BLAINE.
