No. 217.
Mr. Noyes to Mr. Evarts.

[Telegram.]

I have had protracted interview with minister for foreign affairs and minister of agriculture and commerce. Former conciliatory; latter more reserved, being alone responsible for decree. Promised, however, that all pork shipped before date of decree should be admitted on inspection, diseased only being condemned. The government is considering expedient to secure public health without maintaining decree. Have great hope it will be revoked after some delay. Am using all possible influences.

NOYES.
