No. 176.
Mr. Blaine to Mr. Angell.

No. 123.]

Sir: Your dispatch No. 173, of the 18th of June last, respecting the immunity granted to Protestant Chinese converts, has been received and read with much interest.

The Christian world cannot but be deeply impressed by this action of the Chinese Government, which manifests so liberal and just a disposition toward such of its subjects as are led to adopt the Christian faith.

A copy of your dispatch has been communicated for the information of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions at Boston.

I am, sir,

JAMES G. BLAINE.
