The chief justice and government council of the canton of St. Gall to the Swiss Union council in Bern.

Mr. President and Gentlemen of the Council: As we cannot refuse our approval of the Berne address of sympathy and condolence to the government of the North American Union, we give it most cordially; and, moreover, we are pleased to send an address to the government of the American Union from our own government.

In sending the original of it to you, we respectfully request you to have it delivered into the hands of President Johnson.

In the mean time we take the occasion to commend you as well as ourselves to the protection of Divine Providence.
