Governor Gibert to Mr. Elmer .

[Translation.]

My Dear Sir: I have received your note of April 29th in which you advise me of the sudden death of the Chief Magistrate of the United States, who was assassinated during a period of great national rejoicing.

Entertaining the same sentiments as yourself, this government cannot do less-than express its sincere sorrow for the unfortunate event.

I have the honor to repeat my assurances of respect, &c, &c,

F. GIBERT,

Governor, La Paz.

Señor Don F. B. Elmer,
United States Consul.
