Swansea Workingmen’s Institute.
At a special general meeting held at the institute on Tuesday, May 9, 1865, Mr. Benjamin Davis in the chair, it was
Unanimously resolved, That the members of the Swansea Workingmen’s Institute, being desirous of manifesting their sincere regret at the revolting act which has deprived the American republic of an able President, and society at large of one of its brightest ornaments, beg to tender to Mrs. Lincoln and the government and people of the United States their heartfelt sympathy in their present hour of sorrow.
And it was further
Unanimously resolved, That the resolution just passed be forwarded, through the medium of the American minister at London, to Mrs. Lincoln, and the government and people of the United States.
