At a meeting of the council of the borough of Stockport, held in the council chamber, on Wednesday, the 3d May, 1865, William Linton Eskrigge, esq., mayor, in the chair, it was

Unanimously resolved, That the council of Stockport, at its first meeting since the terrible news reached this country that President Lincoln had fallen the victim of a dastardly assassin, and that a like attempt had been made on the life of Mr. Secretary Seward, unanimously passes a vote of sincere condolence with the United States of America, with Mrs. Lincoln, and with Mr. Secretary Seward, expressive of the horror felt by the council, and its deep sympathy with those afflicted by these most diabolical acts.

That this resolution be transmitted to the envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary of the United States in London, with a request that he will duly communicate it to his government, to Mrs. Lincoln, and to Mr. Secretary Seward.
