Grand Division of the Sons of Temperance of Canada

The following resolutions were unanimously pased at the semi-annual meeting of the Grand Division Sons of Temperance of Canada East, on the 6th day of July, 1865:

Resolved, That, whilst rejoicing over the happy termination of the late destructive war, we desire to record our horror and detestation for the assassination of the late President of the United States, and do hereby tender to his bereaved widow and family our profound sympathy in their sorrow.

Resolved, That while we deeply regret the loss of life and treasure occasioned by the late war, we yet rejoice in the conviction that the blood shed and the treasure expended has not been in vain, but, under Providence, has resulted in the overthrow of that sum of all villany, slavery, and the establishment of freedom to a hitherto oppressed race.

Resolved, That we express our earnest hope that the bands of union may be drawn closer than ever, and that, as the result of peace, the blessings of temperance, prosperity, and religion may be universally diffused throughout the United States.
