Mr. Burnley to Mr. Seward

Washington, December 15, 1864.

My Dear Sir: This is what the governor general telegraphed last night:

β€œThe St. Albans men were discharged yesterday, on grounds so absurd that I cannot account for it. Fresh warrants have been issued for their apprehension, and the police are making every effort to prevent their escape.”
