Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 1st instant, relative to the information furnished by Mr.——— in regard to the [Page 88] hostile expeditions in Canada against the peace of the United States, and beg to state, in reply, that I have addressed a confidential communication on the subject to his excellency the governor general of Canada.
