310. Memorandum From the President’s Military Aide (Clifton) to the President’s Special Assistant for National Security Affairs (Bundy)0

The President [2 lines of source text not declassified] asked that you get the following information:

a.
A resume of what we promised the King.1
b.
A résumé of what they promised us, especially in regard to the action they were going to take on the Jewish question, and in regard to the servicemen, etc.
c.
If, as they alleged, the radio transmitters we promised them were unsatisfactory, why did we offer them? If they were satisfactory, what is the difference of opinion that makes them take such a dim view?
d.
Has the aid mission that we promised already departed? If not, why not?

As a corollary to this, the President would like a few facts on the aid and assistance we are giving the UAR, compared to what we are giving to that other friend. What is the financial situation, especially in regard to oil, and what do they really need; what should we be giving them?
