453. USUN For Robertson. Beam-Wang Talks. Wang presented at today’s meeting following draft agreed announcement.
Draft agreed announcement of Governments of PRC and USA on easing and eliminating tension in Taiwan Straits area.
In order ease and eliminate tension in Taiwan Straits area and help safeguard peace in Far East and world, Ambassador Wang Ping-nan, on behalf of Government of PRC and Ambassador Jacob D. Beam, on behalf of Government of USA, agree to announce:
- 1.
- Government of PRC and Government of USA undertake jointly, without prejudice to principles of mutual respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty and non-interference in each others internal affairs, to settle disputes between the two countries in Taiwan area and other areas in Far East through peaceful negotiations without resorting to threat or use of force against each other.
- 2.
- Government of USA declares that, in order eliminate provocations, it undertakes withdraw all its armed forces from Taiwan, Penghu Islands and Taiwan Straits area.
- 3.
- Ambassadors of the two countries will continue their talks on specific matters concerning above two paragraphs of present agreed announcement.
