73. Editorial Note
On January 6, I960, the White House announced that President Eisenhower, accompanied by Mrs. Eisenhower, intended to visit Brazil, February 23–26; Argentina, February 26–29; Chile, February 29–March 2; and Uruguay, March 2–3.
[Page 274]The President’s stated purpose was to fulfill his long-held desire to travel to South America, to meet the people, and to renew friendships with the leaders of nations allied with the United States in the Organization of American States and to work further with them to develop the inter-American system as an example of nations living in peaceful cooperation.
