283. Editorial Note

The Mutual Security Act of 1956, enacted by the U.S. Congress on July 18, amended the Mutual Security Act of 1954 through the addition of Section 143. Section 143 required that aid to Yugoslavia [Page 738] be terminated 90 days after enactment of the law, unless the President determined and reported to the Congress that Yugoslavia remained independent of the Soviet Union and was not participating in any Communist plan of world conquest. The President was also required to affirm that continued assistance to Yugoslavia coincided with U.S. security interests. (70 Stat. 556)
