93. Telegram From the Department of State to the Embassy in Israel1

Washington, February 14, 1956—9:47 a.m.

568. Re urtel 793.2 An independent U.S. representative has held discussions with top officials of Israel and Egyptian Governments during past three weeks and after consultations here will be returning to area for further meetings in ten days or so. Pending concrete results from meetings and at request of both governments, information about them is being confined to fewest possible number of persons. Scope of talks is limited to possibility of settlement and we will of course inform Embassies as soon as there are any developments that would affect our policy in area.
