Editorial Note

In a press conference on October 8, Secretary Acheson stated that the duration of the recess was up to the Communists and that the United Nations Command was prepared to meet with the opposing delegates at Panmunjom when the Communists were ready to accept any of the United Nations’ numerous proposals or when they made a constructive proposal of their own. For the text of Acheson’s statement, see Department of State Bulletin, October 20, 1952, page 600.
