Editorial Note

Following his attendance at the Seventh Session of the North Atlantic Council in Ottawa, September 15–20, Alcide De Gasperi, Prime Minister of Italy, arrived in Washington on September 24 for 3 days of meetings with the President, the Secretary of State, and Department of State officials. One of the major subjects discussed was the question of Trieste which was the focus of the first meeting with the Secretary of State during the afternoon of September 24 and was also raised by De Gasperi during his talk with President Truman at noon on September 25.
