During the course of 1950, policy statements were prepared for the Secretary and Under Secretary of State on the United States attitude toward East Germany. Four statements of this type have been identified in the Department of State files, dated January 1, February 21, April 12, and May 16, none printed. (762B.00/5–1650) The documentation following reflects the basic outlines of these statements.
