Editorial Note

On October 6, President Truman approved the Mutual Defense Assistance Act of 1949 (P.L. 329, 81st Congress; 63 Stat. 714), section 302 of which authorized the expenditure of $27,640,000 for military assistance to Iran, Korea, and the Philippines. Korea’s share of the total sum amounted to $10,970,000.

The Mutual Defense Assistance Agreement between the Republic of Korea and the United States, required by section 401 of P.L. 329, was signed at Seoul on January 26, 1950. The text is printed as TIAS no. 2019 in United States Treaties and Other International Agreements (UST), volume 1, page 137.
