He took Sep 9 paper to Key West for study and any revisions arising from future exploratory talks will naturally be cleared with him. Lovett has touched base with Vandenberg and hopes to do so shortly with Connally. No other Congressional soundings contemplated pending receipt further European views in renewed exploratory talks. Except for conversations with Norwegians and Danes on which memoranda long ago sent Secy and Italians (Deptel 4174 Oct 262) we have had no conversations here. NME expecting visit in Dec from Gen Marras Ital Chief of Staff and Ital Emb advises us Gen Revers3 has initiated Franco-Ital mil talks with Admiral Maugeri.4 No other developments here since you left. In any talks there with Brussels Treaty country reps suggest stressing importance providing satisfactorily for Italy. [Hickerson.]
