I stated that I had not yet approached the President in the matter as I wished to avoid the possibility of embarrassing him and Generalissimo in case latter was not favorably impressed. I therefore requested Chinese to delay confidential notification to their Ambassador until Presidential action was assured. I told Protocol Chief that you would confidentially notify Chinese Ambassador before nomination is made public. Also, at same time, please explain matters to General Wedemeyer showing him 1058, and notify me.
