The Secretary of State to the Ambassador in China (Gauss)
370. A number of American firms which have done business in China in the past are discussing with officers of the Department the question of registration under Chinese laws and regulations. They are making a study of the Chinese regulations governing the registration of firms promulgated in 1931 and propose to request the Department to present their views on this matter to the appropriate Chinese authorities through the Embassy. In the meantime, they have requested to be informed whether the Chinese authorities have set any “deadline” for the registration of American and other foreign companies which have offices or representatives in Free China at the present time. The Department would appreciate receiving by radio any information you may have on this point.
