The Ambassador in China (Gauss) to the Secretary of State
[Received March 21—7:55 a.m.]
496. Admiral Yang, Chief of Chinese Intelligence who has been a good friend and reliable informant, stated to Counselor on March 20 that no really reliable reports had been received regarding the incident referred to in our 479, March 17, and previous, but that the planes had apparently come into Sinkiang from direction of Kobdo, Outer Mongolia.
The place name given as Chingho appears on one map to be Chenghwa about 120 miles west of Kobdo.
