Mr. Mao Tse-tung to the Appointed Ambassador in China (Hurley)

Dear General Hurley: Thank you very much for your kind letter.98

[Page 741]

Last November when President Roosevelt was reelected, I sent him a note of congratulations. In his reply,99 he said that for the defeat of Japanese aggression, he was willing to cooperate with all anti-Japanese forces in China. Please tell your President that I subscribe fully to his policy and that I thank him.

This letter is transmitted to you through the kindness of Colonel Barrett whom we hope will soon return to Yenan.

Several other points which I would like to take up with you have been covered by General Chou En-lai in his letter.1

With best wishes,

Sincerely yours,

Mao Tse Tung
