Washington, January 17,
1944—8 p.m.
85. I. In response to a New Year’s greeting sent by the Secretary of the Navy,24 the Navy Department has received, presumably from the Naval Attaché,25 a message reading substantially as follows:
The Secretary’s message has given Dr. T. V. Soong much gratification. Dr. Soong is pleased to state that Generalissimo is coming to realize that Soong’s differences of opinion are based on China’s welfare and that the tension between Soong and the Generalissimo is greatly relaxed.
II. We would be interested in your comments.
