1264. Hollington Tong41 spoke casually to the Counselor at a dinner party in regard to subject of Department’s 966, July 17. He said he had exchanged telegrams with Lattimore42 (through OWI Department doubtless having seen the messages) and he was wondering whether it would not be best just to drop the matter. Atcheson replied in affirmative, pointing out that it was much better to let it drop than to give the article emphasis and additional publicity.
