5379. American interests Japan. Department’s 1067 [1967], August 16.15 Swiss representative, Tokyo, informs Legation Japanese Minister Foreign Affairs16 states he would take necessary measures transmit next exchange vessel correspondence of POW’s, civilian internees as well as 25-word messages from American citizens Far East. Japanese Government expects reciprocal treatment and requests confirmation that American Government will transmit next exchange vessel communications of types mentioned from Japanese in United States.17

Gaimusho18 communicated identical proposal British Government concerning British subjects Far East.
