138. The Polish Chargé d’Affaires34 informed me yesterday that there has been no change or improvement in Polish-Soviet relations.35 He stated somewhat resignedly that the Soviet Government was still adamant in respect to the release of Polish officers, the evacuation of [Page 331] Polish women and children and its policy toward Polish Jews. He said that Polish citizens are now being conscripted into the Red Army in spite of the protests of the Polish Embassy.
