The Secretary of State to the Ambassador in Chile (Bowers)

566. Your 728, December 10, 10 p.m.31 You may make the following statement to the Minister of Foreign Affairs

“The Government of the United States, as it has publicly stated, considers that the defense of each one of the American Republics is [Page 76] vital to the defense of all the others. Accordingly, the Government of the United States will immediately cooperate, to the best of its ability, in the defense of any American Republic against which aggression is committed from outside the Western Hemisphere.”
