35. Shanghai’s 102, February 4, 4 p.m., and the Department’s 38, February 1, 7 p.m.,92 in regard to the desire of Andersen, Meyer and Company to station a representative on its mill property at Kiukiang.
[Page 283]The Department desires that you approach the Japanese Foreign Office, in such manner as you deem appropriate, with the request that steps be taken at an early date to meet the company’s desire to send its representative to Kiukiang. Please point out the urgency of the matter from the standpoint of the company and emphasize, in connection with the general question of the return of Americans to their properties and businesses, the justice of acceding to the company’s request.
