18. According to unpublished information confirmed by the Bank of the Republic import quotas of official exchange for the month of February have now been fixed for 11 countries excluding the United [Page 941] States. Quota total 1,025,000 pounds of which 400,000 pounds are for Great Britain. This refers only to official exchange and has no connection with proposed allotments of free exchange referred to in the Consulate General’s telegram of February 17, noon.58
