164. My telegram 158, June 21, noon. A foreign newspaper report received here confirmed by the local Domei correspondent states that the Soviet protest was rejected by the Japanese Foreign Office which called the attention of the Soviet Chargé d’Affaires to the continued assistance given to China by Soviet aviation. The Japanese Embassy here is noncommittal as to truth of this report.
