The Ambassador in Japan (Grew) to the Secretary of State

630. Embassy’s 628, September 28, 3 p.m. An hour ago I was approached by the Foreign Office as to how I would feel about the Japanese Government’s giving publicity to my call this afternoon on the Foreign Minister and to his expression of appreciation for and agreement in the spirit in which the President sent his message. I stated that in my opinion any publicity to favorable reaction on the part of the Japanese Government would be all to the good. I am now given to understand that the Minister shares this view and that a release will be given out in such tone.
