25. The broadcast from Sian last night in English was made not by woman announcer but by a man who spoke English with a Russian accent. He announced inaugural meeting of new “National Salvation Association” on January 11, with 200 delegates, at which time pleas were made for a “war against traitors” and a united front against Japan. The work of various propaganda agencies was described. It was announced that “peaceful conditions” prevailed in Shensi and Chiang Kai-shek was charged with “insincerity”.

Captain Barrett23 reports today from Loyang that the military authorities at Loyang believe that the present difficulty will be settled without resort to military force.
