35. Your 26, January 17, 8 p.m. and despatch No. 3234, January 4,80 the last received. Please send by naval radio a summary of the steps taken and the results attained to date by the Chinese Government as a consequence of the Stam murder and a statement of the Legation’s opinion whether the action taken by the Chinese Government is all that might reasonably be expected in the circumstances. Has the Chinese Government given any acceptable assurances that any persons connected with the murder have been punished?
