283. My 266, June 14, 1 p.m.6 Foreign Secretary stated in the House of Commons last evening:
“As soon as the Chinese Government had been informed of the appointment of Sir Frederick Leith-Ross His Majesty’s Government communicated with the United States, French, Japanese and Italian [Page 595] Governments and expressed their hope that these Governments would take similar action. I have not as yet received any intimation of their intentions in this respect.”
