159. I am confidentially informed by head of a government ministry that Chiang Kai-shek will probably come to Nanking and may arrive tomorrow. Ho Ying-chin, he states, did not reach Nanking until this afternoon, having stopped over at Paotingfu. He states further that the situation looks a little better today than yesterday but no matter what turn events may take China has already done everything possible to accommodate the Japanese and can do no more.
