86. My 84, August 30, noon. In reply to questions from my colleagues and the press I have consistently maintained the concession was a purely commercial matter without any political significance whatever and that neither the American Government nor this Legation had taken part in the negotiations. I should be glad to have the Department’s approval and guidance.
I understand Rickett, who signed on behalf of the company, tried also to obtain contract for Lake Tsana project but was referred to the White Corporation.95
