The Secretary of State to the Chargé in Ethiopia (Engert)
43. The President has received the following message dated August 5 by telegraph from the Emperor: “We desire to express our thanks for your statement to the press on August 1st. Ethiopia has not ceased since beginning to seek peaceful settlement and especially [Page 734] appreciates the support of the Government and people of the United States in the cause of peace.”
The President desires you to acknowledge orally the receipt of the Emperor’s message and to convey to him an appropriate expression of the President’s appreciation.
