The Chargé in France (Marriner) to the Secretary of State

No. 2242

Sir: In continuation of my despatch No. 2179 of September 19, 1935,12 I have the honor to report that the Embassy has again made inquiry of the competent official at the Foreign Office concerning the French Government’s attitude toward the Roerich Pact or Convention. The official stated that his Government has further investigated the matter and is less inclined now than was the case last month to give serious consideration to the Pact. He added that the legal advisers of the Foreign Office had expressed the opinion that the Pact is not worthy of serious consideration, at least at the present moment.

Respectfully yours,

Theodore Marriner
