Legation’s telegram, No. 9, January 13, 2 p.m. The Department on January 12 authorized the Legations at Guatemala City, Tegucigalpa and San José, in the event they were approached in the matter, [Page 230] to confirm the understanding that you have authorized President Sacasa to permit his representatives to advise the other interested Governments, orally and confidentially, that his proposal meets with the approval of this Government, and that the United States is prepared to recognize the present Government of El Salvador as soon as recognition is accorded by Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
