The Minister in China (Johnson) to the Secretary of State

286. British Legation has now received instructions and drafted note to Foreign Office refusing to assent to a further postponement of the Boxer Indemnity payments. Italian Legation still without instructions. I am drafting note of refusal to be submitted by telegraph for Peck47 to deliver to the Foreign Office immediately upon receipt of knowledge that Italian Legation has instructions to make similar reply.
