The Chargé in Peru (Burdett) to the Secretary of State

104. My 101, and 102, July 11, [9 a.m. and] 11 a.m.3 Returned safely last night after being obliged to land under fire outskirts Trujillo. Embassy today sent formal note of protest to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and in the event further requisition Panagra planes it will endeavor to prevent American pilots from flying under army orders unless Department instructs to the contrary.

Trujillo today in the hands of the Government. All Americans Cartavio safe. Impossible to learn welfare of others in district.
